Boot Hearing Aid Audiologist, Roopal Dhanota traveled to Nepal to volunteer for 3 weeks with Hearing Project Nepal; a small community based charity working to provide free or low cost solutions for the hearing impaired children and adults of Pokhara and its surrounding areas. Boots helped by donating hearing aids and equipment, but it was Roopal who made all the difference. During her time there Roopal carried out testing and fitting in many varied situations including orphanages and camps (at one site the team tested 135 people in one day!) She also helped to coach the team there, helping them to develop skills which will help the programme going forward.
Roopal says “Overall, this experience has given me a different outlook to the way I work and I’ve learned to adapt to certain problems that my customers may have. It was the opportunity of a lifetime – to have the chance to make a difference to people’s lives when they’re living in such a challenging environment. They’re wonderful people who showed me such hospitality. I feel privileged to have been able to help and appreciate the fact that Boots Hearingcare helped me to achieve it”.
