Our partnership with Deaf Sports UK

Deaf Sports UK is the national governing body for deaf sport and physical activity in the UK. They support athletes competing across a wide range of sports, from grassroots level through to international competitions, including the Deaflympics.

Through our partnership, we're helping athletes evidence the hearing criteria required to compete internationally by providing access to specialist hearing assessments.

Supporting athletes to compete

To compete in international deaf sport, athletes must meet eligibility criteria set by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD). Applicants must have unaided hearing thresholds no better.

Boots Hearingcare supports this process by offering free audiograms to eligible deaf athletes, helping them complete the required assessments accurately and confidently.

These assessments include, as appropriate:

• Air conduction testing

• Bone conduction testing

• Tympanometry (middle ear function)

• Acoustic reflex testing

Our experienced audiologists ensure results are completed to the required standards, so athletes can submit their forms as part of their eligibility assessment to compete.

For many deaf athletes, accessing the correct testing can be a barrier to competing internationally. By working with Deaf Sports UK, we're helping remove that barrier.

How to book your audiogram

If you're a deaf athlete looking to complete your audiogram for competition eligibility, you can request an appointment with our World of Hearing team by following the steps below:

• Email info@bootshearingcare.co.uk to request your appointment

• Include "Deaf Sport PTA Appt Request" in the subject line

• In your email, provide:

- Your full name

- Date of birth

- First line of your address and postcode

- Details of your hearing equipment (hearing aids, unilateral or bilateral cochlear implant, or none)

• Let us know your preferred or nearest World of Hearing store

• Please allow 3-12 weeks for your appointment
