Cosmetic Styles

Digital hearing aids come in a huge range of sizes, styles and colours. From the small, discreet models worn in the ear to more traditional behind the ear hearing aids. Most of the digital hearing aids we offer are available in the range of cosmetic styles shown below, so you can choose the style that best suits you.

CIC Ear

Completely in the Canal (CIC)
Created from a mould of your ear, these hearing aids fit neatly inside the ear canal and are the smallest and least visible of all hearing aid styles.

OTE Ear

On the ear (OTE)
Often called 'open fit' aids, these small stylish units fit discreetly behind the ear. A small ear tip is attached to the hearing aid by a micro tube; these tips are made with air vents, helping as much natural sound to enter the ear as possible.

ITC Ear

In the canal (ITC)
An inconspicuous hearing aid, again customised, fits just at the entrance to the ear canal. Slightly larger than the CIC, the ITC has more room to house the circuitry and therefore the potential for a greater range of features.

ITE Ear

In the ear (ITE)
Custom made instrument that fits in the outer ear. These are larger in size and hence more noticeable but do allow for larger batteries to be used providing longer life.

BTE Ear

Behind the ear (BTE)
Fits comfortably behind the ear and attaches to a custom-made ear mould. Whilst sometimes dismissed as old fashioned or traditional, advances in technology have reduced the size of these hearing aids dramatically over the years.

Hearplus Ear

Hearplus
Modern and sleek, this 'Fit and Go' personal hearing assistant sits at the entrance of the ear canal. The styling is deliberately modern and more in keeping with 'Bluetooth' telephone accessories and is designed for mild to moderate hearing loss.

Which style is right for me?

There are a few things to consider when choosing which style of hearing aid you want to wear; the features, the shape and size of your ear, even dexterity - your Hearing Aid Audiologist will be happy to discuss the benefits of each style with you and help you to choose the one that suits your needs best.

Resound dotOne hearing aid or two?

The decision of whether to wear one or two hearing aids depends primarily on your hearing loss. Studies have shown that people who experience hearing loss in both ears will gain far greater hearing clarity, satisfaction and quality of life from wearing two hearing aids.

If, following your hearing test, a hearing loss is discovered in both ears and the results indicate you would benefit from wearing two hearing aids your Hearing Aid Audiologist will discuss your options with you.
